Congress asks NEDA partners to protect interest of NE states
SHILLONG: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge North East Luihinzo Falerio today appealed to the North eastern states to come together and protect the interest and the future of the region.
At same time, Faleiro also asked the regional political parties supporting the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) to look at the long term “ill-effects” by joining hands with such a party which according to him has a different agenda.
“As North eastern states irrespective of who is ruling, taking the interest and looking at the future of the NE states, we have to come together,” he told reporters after chairing a meeting with the party leaders and functionaries here on Friday.
Stating that everybody knows the agenda of the BJP and the RSS, the Congress leader said the very fact that the Citizenship Amendment Bill was brought, the withdrawal of the special category status of the NE states and the fact that the planning commission is removed, is a loss to the NE region.
“Being the members of NEDA under the chairmanship of Amit Shah whether in the long run that will be beneficial to the NE states, whether they will be able to protect the identity of the states, these are many questions we have to discuss,” Faleiro said.
“So our friends who are members of NEDA should understand that instead of just joining NEDA you have to think not only of short-term the pleasure of ruling but long term the ill effects of joining this party whose agenda is different, who has already demonstrated through their actions, whether it is CAB…and what they are bringing in other places, whether that will be in the interest of the NE states,” he added.
He said although the CAB could not be passed in the Rajya Sabha due to opposition by the Congress along with the NGOs and student organizations from the NE region adding “But now this sinister CAB as per their election promises they will bring it by July.”
Meanwhile, the AICC leader however assured that the Congress has always and will continue to protect and preserve the unique identity, culture and tradition of the North East region.
