Congress demands restoration of internet
SHILLONG: The opposition Congress has demanded the state government to immediately restore the internet services in the state.
SMS of all media service providers and mobile internet/data services of all mobile services providers have been temporarily suspended since December 12, due to the law and order situation arising out of the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
Talking to media persons here on Monday, Leader of opposition Mukul Sangma termed the shutting down of internet as an attempt to curtail the democratic rights of the citizens.
Condemning the attitude of the state government, Sangma said this is a complete bankruptcy of idea of governance.
“We had the privilege of running the government for a long time. During 2010-2018, we had serious problems, we were confronted by bigger challenges of militancy, kidnapping and killings, did we see our government resorting to this kind of panic reaction, we never,” the former chief minister said.
Also accusing the state government of showing knee jerk reaction for everykind of situation, he said, “We have seen simple fight between one and another person ultimately culminate in a law and order situation crippling the whole normal life in the city and how the name and fame of the state that we build over the years to brand Meghalaya as one of the most sort destination has been spoiled because of their inefficiency and sheer lack of idea of governance and insensitivity towards the people of the state.”
Sangma further said that the state government is expected to immediately restore the internet services and should not be responding to this kind of situation as a panic reaction.
