Congress Mahila condemns Golflink assault case, asks HM to step down
The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (MPMCC) has condemned the culprits involved in the assault incident at Golflink, which led to the death of Pherlangroi Myrthong from Wahkaji village in South West Khasi Hills district.
In a statement issued on Monday, MPMCC president Joplyn Scott Shylla said such incidents tend to add fuel to fire and may also lead to law and order breakdown.
“The Mahila Congress is of the view that the state police and its agencies should not be complacent but make efforts to arrest the perpetrators of such dastartly act,” she said while expressing her deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
She said the party also questioned the role of the state police in arresting the people and why does it take long to use its resources when the same department would use it against pressure groups who take to the streets to fight and demand for their rights.
“The party is also of the view that if the home minister who is in charge and holds the police department in his hands cannot ensure justice, it would be prudent for him to step down and hand it over to someone who is capable of ensuring better responsibilities,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Mahila Congress also urged for peace and harmony while at the same time ask people to be vigilant and not allow the atmosphere to vitiate further till justice is done.
