Congress MDCs join ruling NPP
Two Congress MDCs Batskhem Ryntathiang (Mairang) and Carnes Sohshang (Mawkyrwat) and a former MDC Donevan Kharwanlang on Monday formally joined the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).
The two MDCs and former MDC were welcomed by NPP national president and chief minister Conrad K Sangma during a meeting held at the party office in the presence of state president Prestone Tynsong and party national general secretary Sniawbhalang Dhar.
Addressing the gathering, Conrad K Sangma said that the party has quality leaders which is why many senior leaders from different political parties are coming to join the Party.
“The joining of Batskhem, Carnes and Donevan is another boost to the party and I am sure that with their capability with their support and with their contribution the party will further grow and become much stronger in the stage of Meghalaya” said Sangma.

Sangma said that one of the basic principles that the party has always followed is that in the NPP, there is no question of anyone above or anyone below or anybody feeling that they are in a bigger position and therefore they are far bigger than somebody else who is not in a bigger position.
He added that every single leader in the NPP is a humble person, a person who is willing to talk to any party workers and is someone who is accessible and will always try resolving all issues.
“We don’t have any ego or problems among us” he added.
“I you were to compare the state unit and the kind of quality of the leaders we have to any other political party’s office bearers and leaders. You have you seen yourself, I am not trying to bring everybody down, I am not trying to bring anybody down, all political parties are great but if you look at the quality of the people that is there in the NPP and you compare it to any other political parties team, I think the NPP is far ahead in terms of quality and capabilities. I can say that with full confidence and you can see it right in front of you today” said Sangma.
Sangma said that NPP is the party that listens to the grassroots workers and will always listen to their advice in order to strengthen the Party as it always believes in working and moving together as a team.
Meanwhile MP candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the joining of the two sitting MDCs and former MDC will give more strength to her on-going campaign especially in Mairang and Mawkyrwat where the NPP have just started to be visible.
“Every day, our party continues to grow and be stronger especially in those constituencies where our party is less known or less accepted and the NPP is the only party from Meghalaya that brings the issues of the people to the central government” said Lyngdoh.
