Congress MLA demands action against refusal to admit a pregnant woman
Opposition legislator from Mawlai, PT Sawkmie on Tuesday urged the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) to take action against the alleged failure of the Ganesh Das hospital to admit a pregnant woman.
Sawkmie in a statement said that this is not the first time that the government hospital and private hospitals are playing with the lives of the patients.
Terming the incident as rude, the Congress MLA requested the MHRC to step in and take action against the staff of the Ganesh Das Hospital.
“I also urge the government to take a disciplinary action against the staff who misbehave with the pregnant woman from Mawlai Mawtawar,” Sawkmie said as he suggested the district administration to notify the protocol to those patients who are coming from the containment zones.
Meanwhile in connection with this case, the Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War has informed that the isolation ward at the Ganesh Das hospital was already full.
He said later the patient (pregnant woman) was also admitted in the hospital. Stating that there are too many containment areas in the city, Dr War said an inspection was also conducted today and they have decided to increase the number of beds in the isolation ward.
“We have activated 25 beds for suspected patients and five for positive patients,” he said while adding that staff nurses have also been appointed.
Meanwhile, sources informed that the woman later delivered her baby. However, the newborn passed away. Confirming this, the DHS said that he too has received a report informing about the death of the newborn.
