Congress MLA donates ALS ambulance for Rangsakona constituency
Congress legislator from Rangsakona Zenith M Sangma on Thursday donated an advanced life support (ALS) ambulance to the people of his constituency.
This was the first ALS ambulance in Garo Hills.
Requesting the public to utilise a modern ambulance, Sangma said, “The modern ambulance vehicles would be useful in providing better medical services during emergencies.”
This ALS ambulance, costing Rs 26 lakh was dedicated to the people by Zenith Sangma with an objective of supporting the fight against deadly virus in the backdrop of Covid-19 pandemic.
Healthcare in the backdrop of Covid 19 pandemic has become a crucial sector and lack of such high end ambulances is a major setback for the state.
There is no Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulance in Garo Hills region.
At present in Meghalaya, there are three ALS ambulances of which one at the stepdown COVID hospital at Umsawli, one in Shella, one in Laitkynsew. However, NEIGRIHMS hospital too has one ALS ambulance.
The ALS ambulance is fully equipped to handle patients needing life support. ACLS Ambulance is well equipped with tools and equipment similar to a hospital emergency department or critical care unit.
ALS ambulances carry critical care equipment including an ECG monitor, defibrillator, intravenous and blood draw tools etc.
