Congress MP from Tura should speak about National Herald case: BJP

BJP state general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna on Wednesday asked the Congress MP from Tura Saleng A Sangma to speak about the National Herald case.
“A newspaper which has to be closed down because it had taken an interest-free loan of Rs 90.25 crore (from Indian National Congress) which if you look at The People’s Representation Act, does not allow political parties to enter into commercial business with any private entities which the Congress has done so. Therefore, I would like to ask a question: what does he (Saleng) have to say on this particular issue?” Pohshna told reporters.
He said the Congress party which champions itself as a party that follows the Gandhian principles of truth is now seen to have been caught between the ‘devil and the deep blue sea’.
“They cannot fool the people of India anymore by diverting attention through dharnas and condemnations of all sorts because its top most leadership now has been chargesheeted under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The famous National Herald case is a very landmark legal battle which is going on and their leader Sonia Gandhi and the current leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi have been named as the top most accused among others,” Pohshna said adding “There is a money trail transaction which has been established by documentary evidence. So, we the people of Meghalaya would like to put a question to the Congress party that is it not true that the Congress and corruption are synonymous.”
He said that the facts are out in the open about how the properties that were owned by AJL now get converted to a private firm which is owned by a particular family.
“If you look at the history of AJL when the National Herald newspaper was established most probably in 1937, the purpose of that newspaper was to instil the mind of freedom fighting which happened during those years and approximately 5000 freedom fighters were shareholders in AJL. So how can now, it is a kind of a fraud that is happening to the shareholders and I am sure if you go through the readings that there is fraud that is being committed that how the shareholders have been duped…”
Further, the BJP leader said that the Congress should tell the people what this major issue is all about instead of organizing numerous agitations or condemnations on small issues.
“They are trying to divert the minds of the people but this is where we have to concentrate. That is what we want to tell the people of Meghalaya that the Congress has to answer these key questions which we the BJP put to them. Now, we urge upon the Congress leadership to stop these cheap rhetorics and allow the law of the land to take the case to where it reaches. It should reach its logical end so that justice to the original shareholders is given and not denied,” he added.
