Congress to field Ryngnga as candidate for Shella by poll
SHILLONG: The opposition Congress in Meghalaya has recommended the name of Batyngshain Laitmon Ryngnga as the candidate for the upcoming Shella by poll to be held on October 21.
General secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee, WK Kyndiah on Tuesday informed that the Pradesh election committee has recommended the name of Batyngshain Laitmon Ryngnga to the All India Congress Committee as party candidate for the bye election to the Shella seat.
The bye election was necessitated following the death of former Assembly Speaker late Dr Donkupar Roy on July 28, this year. Dr Roy, a former United Democratic Party chief was also the longest serving legislator of Shella constituency.
The UDP is also fielding his son, Balajied Kupar Synrem as the candidate. Sources informed that Synrem is likely to file his nomination tomorrow.
The last date for filing of nominations has been fixed on September 30 and scrutiny of nomination papers will be on October 1 while last date of withdrawal of nominations is on October 3.
The results for the bye election will be declared on October 24.
