Conrad is merely a ‘puppet’ appointed by Delhi: Mukul alleges
Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Thursday alleged that Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma is merely a puppet appointed by Delhi.
“The NPP-led MDA government has been formed by PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. CM Conrad Sangma is merely a puppet appointed by Delhi,” Mukul said while addressing a meeting to form the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) block committee in Mawshynrut, West Khasi Hills District.
“In 2018 elections, BJP members came and appointed Conrad Sangma as the Chief Minister so he acts as their puppet. Everyone knows how Home Minister Amit Shah came and pursued Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for the border deal, and within a month he signed the border agreement with Assam. Now, NPP is saying they’ll scrap the alliance with BJP and contest alone in the upcoming 2023 elections. These divisive forces from outside came in and formed an unholy alliance. They promised something before the elections, but did they keep their promises? This shows that this is a govt that cannot be trusted by the people of the state. Meghalaya and all it’s people will vote for change in the coming year,” he said
Further, attacking the NPP-led MDA government over ineffective and poor governance, Mukul added, “This is our democracy and we must work together to safeguard the interests of our people, our tribes, our culture, our kids, and for our coming generations. The current proxy-BJP government is inefficient in preserving the uniqueness of our identity. They are wasting all our resources. I want to ask, why the sitting MLA hasn’t brought any formidable change in the constituency during his tenure? It’s not too late before the people will give them a befitting answer.”
He said that the HSPDP, UDP, KHNAM also claimed that they would not stand by the BJP government but they all changed their stance. “This is merely a repetition of their trickery,” he added.
TMC leader, Justin G Momin lambasting the current NPP MLA Gigur Myrthong over no development said, “Just go around the constituency and you’ll witness that there’s been no development whatsoever. If you see the health index, it has gone down all across the state, especially in this constituency. Despite the fact that this constituency shares its border with Assam, there’s no livelihood nor enough jobs. The government failed to leverage the connectivity this area shares with the neighboring state.”
