Contractual worker arrested for graft in Assam
In their continued drive against corruption and graft cases, sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday arrested a contractual worker of a revenue circle office in Darrang district on a bribery case.
Tapan Nath, contractual lat mandal of Dalgaon Revenue Circle office in Darrang district was arrested by a team of DVAC for receiving Rs 1,500 from a person in a land-related matter.
He had demanded Rs 5,000 as a bribe of which he received Rs 1,500 as its parts on Thursday.
“A trap was laid today in Hotel Tital near the circle office. Tapan Nath was caught red-handed immediately after he accepted Rs 1,500 as a part of the demanded bribe from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from his possession,” police said.
“After the arrest, the employment status of Tapan Nath was verified by the team of DVAC and it was revealed that he was engaged as lat mandal on a contractual basis but his contract period has ended recently,” they said.
Tapan Nath was arrested and a case bearing ACB police case number 31/2024 under section 120B and read with section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 in this connection.
