Corbevax vaccine: East Jaintia Hills begins vaccination for 12-14 year group
Covid vaccination for the 12 to 14 age group was launched in Little Star Secondary School on Tuesday. Forty One students got their Corbevax shots.
Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District Abhilash Baranwal, IAS has launched a drive to administer Corbevax vaccine for children of age group 12 to 14 years at Little Star Secondary School, Lad Rymbai on Tuesday.
The programme was organized by the office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat which was attended by teachers, students and parents.
Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Abhilash Baranwal, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, said that there is a need to ensure that teachers are using every possible channel of communication to inform and sensitize the parents that COVID vaccination for children is of utmost importance. He urged the students to reach out to their parents and teachers if they are having any hesitancy or fear regarding the vaccine while also stating that the Corbevax vaccine has been introduced for children of age group 12 to 14 years and he requested the students to make a conscious decision.
Dr. Dominic Shylla, District Medical and Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat in his welcome address appealed to the students eligible for the vaccination to come forward and get vaccinated with the Corbevax Vaccine to protect themself against the COVID- 19 virus.
Others who also spoke were P Lywait, Public Health Nurse, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat who gave a brief overview and awareness on COVID-19 Vaccination, P Dkhar, SDSEO, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat spoke on the importance of Covid 19 Vaccination for teachers and students, M Phawa, Director, Little Star Secondary School, Lad Rymbai, East Jaintia Hills District, and S Dkhar, BEE, Khliehriat CHC, East Jaintia Hills District.
After the launching programme, a Covid 19 vaccination session for eligible students was carried out by the office of the District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District where in 41 (Forty One) students age 12 to 14 years took their first dose of the Corbevax vaccine, Covaxin was also administered to 26 ( Twenty Five) students aged 15 to 18 years and 6 (Six) beneficiaries above 18 years of age were vaccinated with Covishield Vaccine.
