Court convicts two in separate sexual assault cases in West Jaintia Hills

West Jaintia Hills District Court convicted two persons in two sexual assault cases, one of a minor and another of a lady.

Informing this on Thursday, West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Bikram D Marak said that on 18.11.2016 an FIR was lodged at Amlarem PS that one lady was sexually assaulted on 17.11.2016  by one Murtibiang Surong. A case was registered vide Amlarem PS case No.18 (11) 2016 U/S 376 IPC and was endorsed to WPSI O Tyngkan who after investigation charge sheeted the case.

On 30^th June,2022, the District Session Judge, West Jaintia Hills,Jowai, found the accused Murtibiang Surong guilty and convicted him U/S 376 IPC for 12 (Twelve) years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs.50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand) only.

In another case, on 27.02.2018 an FIR was lodged at Jowai PS that one minor girl was sexually assaulted since November 2017 by Francis Suchiang. A case was registered vide Jowai PS case No.39 (02) 2018 U/S 506 IPC R/w Sec 7/8 POCSO Act and was endorsed to WPSI RM Suchiang who after investigation charge sheeted the case.

The Court of Special Judge (POCSO Act), West Jaintia Hills, Jowai on 28^thJune,2022 found the accused Francis Suchiang guilty and convicted him U/S Sec 8 POCSO Act for 4(Four) years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs.6000/-( Rupees Six Thousand)and in default of payment of fine shall undergo 2 months simple imprisonment and  U/S 506 IPC fine of Rs.2000/-( Rupees Two Thousand) and in default of payment of fine shall undergo 1 month simple imprisonment.
