COVID-19: 16 more test positive in Meghalaya, tally rises to 259
Sixteen more persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday taking the total number of active cases in the state to 259.
Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War informed that 12 are from the Border Security Force (BSF) while 4 others are from Garo Hills.
“The state now has a total of 259 active cases,” he said.
East Khasi Hills District is having the highest number of active cases at 224 which include 172 BSF, 2 Air Force, and 50 others are civilians .
A total of 20 active cases are in Ri Bhoi District, 9 in West Garo Hills, 2 in East Jaintia Hills, 2 in South Garo Hills, 1 in East Garo HIlls and 1 in North Garo Hills
So far, 45 patients have recovered from the infection and 2 died.
With 95 of active COVID-19 cases detected from Shillong city alone, the State government on Saturday announced a 48-hour lockdown in Shillong Urban agglomeration beginning on Monday to trace high risk contacts of positive persons and also allow health workers to create awareness on the health protocols.
The Chief Minister had said the government has decided to observe the next two working days on July 13 and 14 as ‘lockdown the virus through Behavior Change’ and while the surrounding areas shall remain under curfew till 0600 hours on July 15.
