COVID-19: 48-hour curfew clamped in Byrnihat as govt decides to go for random test
The state government has announced a 48-hour curfew and random testing for COVID-19 from Byrnihat to Khanapara in Ri Bhoi along the inter-state border with Assam following the sudden spike in the number of infections.
The decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday.
“Taking into consideration the spike that has taken place especially along the Shillong-Guwahati national highway starting from Byrnihat to Khanapara, we have decided to go for random testing of residents in the area,” Tynsong told reporters.
He said direction has been issued to the health department and the district administration including the district medical & health officer (DM&HO) to conduct the random testing on residents of villages along this stretch.
Tynsong also announced that curfew will also be clamped from Byrnihat to Khanapara.
“The 48-hour curfew will start from 9 pm of Friday to July 6. The Ri Bhoi deputy commissioner has been asked to issue necessary order. This is being done for the safety of the citizens especially those residing in areas bordering Guwahati, Assam,” he said.
