COVID-19 active cases cross 7,000-mark in Meghalaya, 21 deaths
Twenty-one more persons have succumbed to COVID-19, pushing the death toll to 435 on Saturday even as the number of active cases in the state crossed the 7,000-mark, after 1,123 new positive cases were detected.
19 deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district alone while 2 from West Jaintia Hills district, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
Dr War said the new cases include 542 in East Khasi Hills, 277 Ri Bhoi, 76 West Garo Hills, 60 West Jaintia Hills, 49 South Garo Hills, 29 South West Garo Hills, 26 North Garo Hills, 21 East Jaintia Hills, 20 South West Khasi Hills, 12 West Khasi Hills and 11 East Garo Hills.
He also informed that 509 patients have also recovered from the viral infection during the past 24 hours.
Of these, 380 are from East Khasi Hills, 35 West Garo Hills, 30 West Jaintia Hills 19 South West Garo Hills, 13 South Garo Hills, 13 West Khasi Hills, 11 Ri Bhoi, 4 East Garo Hills, 3 South West Khasi Hills and 1 East Jaintia Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 28,878 COVID-19 cases out of which 7,454 are active cases, 20,989 recovered and 435 deaths.
With 4,025 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 1,236 cases.
There are 569 cases in West Garo Hills, 503 West Jaintia Hills, 290 South West Garo Hills, 241 East Jaintia Hills, 179 West Khasi Hills, 139 North Garo Hills, 118 South Garo Hills, 88East Garo Hills and 66 South West Khasi Hills.
On the other hand, of the 5,32,756 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 5,03,878 were tested negative for the virus even as 1,289 persons are in institutional quarantine and 6,166 under home quarantine.
There are 1,19,581 entrants from outside the state.
28,908 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 19,448 had received the second dose, while 79,250 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 26,445 got the second dose as on Saturday.
Moreover, 2,50,210 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 28,254 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the state.
