Covid-19: Armed Forces to deal with the pandemic in India
Due to the catastrophic second wave of Covid-19, with a tsunami of 3,23,144 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, shattering world records during this pandemic, the Armed Force has taken over and is providing assistance to the nation to combat the pandemic.
Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat met with Prime Minister on April 26, 2021 as they reviewed the preparations and operations being undertaken by the Armed Forces to deal with the pandemic.
General Bipin Rawat informed the PM that all medical personnel from the armed forces who retired or took pre-mature retirement in the last two years are being recalled to work in Covid facilities near their current residence.
Prime Minister was also informed that oxygen cylinders stored by the armed forces in various locations would be made available to hospitals. In addition, nursing personnel are being hired in large numbers to supplement the doctors in hospitals.
The CDS also stated that they are building a large number of medical facilities and that military medical equipment will be made accessible to civilians where possible.
