Covid-19 Free!!!! Congratulations Meghalaya! But Have You Forgotten Us?

Do you mean the State of Meghalaya or Meghalaya people when you say that we’re covid-19 free? If this is the way to be free then why don’t we just send all those infected patients to another state or country and don’t you think we’ve been free since then? As a stranded citizen we want to know are we still the resident of the state? If so, let me remind you that there are thousands more people from Meghalaya who are outside the state who are stranded and delayed by evacuation from the hotspot location, we has not been tested by the state that we are stranded right now or by our very own state. How is our state be Covid –19 free? YOU’RE JUST FREE FROM US!

As per the Ministry of External Affairs, the Government of India has evacuated 20000 (plus) foreign nationals to different parts of the world by the Government of India but they cannot evacuate us who are in the same country. If you can send special flights and trains to other country then why can’t you do the same for us? Why are we not being evacuated, other who are stuck in some part of other states are already home. Is our government in sleep mode when it comes to the people who are stranded in Maharashtra, Delhi and other states who are still stuck?

Why are we not being given a concrete response, with regard to the plan and timeline for evacuation. “When is the evacuation going to happen? How long will the lockdown be? What will we do? Just count down our days?”

Every time we’ve spoken and appealed to the current government the only respond we get is ‘’we are still coordinating, but the final decision can only be taken by both government’’. They say do not panic we will arrange the train but sadly the train hasn’t arrived. They say Register with the government on the official site, and we have done so. One among the stranded has question “how many forms do we have to filled in to get any response from them?” They give us indefinite emergency phone number incase if we need help but do they pick up the phone?

Is it not feasible? Can’t they use the fund to evacuate the people of the state?

If we were in a situation we could certainly stay put we definitely would but right now students who live in hostels their kitchen has been closed, having a square meal has become impossible, people who have come here to work has lost their job and have no wages which means no income then no food, no money for rent and all the other basic human needs, they have no place to go and also many have not received the amount promise by the government, some of us share an apartment with friends and colleagues who are the forefront in fighting the virus which poses a risk of infection amid the current situation. We are suffering mentally!

But so far by the Grace Of Our Almighty Lord we have not heard of anybody here in Maharashtra who is from Meghalaya who has been infected by the virus. Please take us home before it’s too late. We are seeking the help of authorities and people’s representatives to facilitate for our return. Not to mention the name but I personally thank few of our leaders who have really tried their best to take us home but unfortunately that cannot be done alone.
