COVID-19: HYC asks govt to stop entry of outsiders into the state
The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded the state government to restrict the entry of people from other states following the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
“We demand the government not to allow people from outside to enter the state,” HYC general secretary Roykupar Synrem said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
He alleged that many people from other states have obtained passes from the different departments including the agriculture and horticulture to enter the different districts in the name of buying and selling of vegetables and others.
“Such action will only pose a serious threat to the people of the state,” Roy said.
On the other hand, the general secretary said that the HYC also demands the government to conduct testing on people in each and every village to prevent further spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are very much concerned to witness the rise in the number of positive cases in the state despite the efforts put in by the government, traditional dorbars, NGOs and others who are involved in the fight against this pandemic,” he said.
