COVID-19 | Meghalaya defers salaries of govt employees including CM, ministers
Faced with tackling the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Meghalaya government has decided that the salaries of all government employees including chief minister and cabinet ministers will be deferred.
“There shall be deferment of 50% in the gross salary, in respect of Chief Minister,
Deputy Chief Minister and Ministers,” Chief Secretary MS Rao said in a notification issued here on Tuesday.
He said there shall be deferment of 50%in the gross salary, in respect of All India Services Officers viz IAS, IPS, IFS and central services officers on deputation to the state government.
The chief secretary said the decision was taken in view of current unprecedented situation due to COVID-19 and the consequent lockdown is likely to slow down the national and state economies.
It is therefore necessary to put in place expenditure control and cash management systems so that resources are available for effective management of COVID-19 situation, he said.
Accordingly, the following measures have been taken with regard to salaries for the period April, 2020 (to be paid in May, 2020) and May, 2020 (to be paid in June, 2020).
Rao said there shall be deferment of 35% in the gross salary of Group A and B officers and 25% in respect of Group C staff of all departments except the officers and staff of the Departments of Health and Family Welfare and the Group C employees of Home (Police) and Home (Civil Defence and Home Guards).
“The proportion of the deferment in salaries for Group A, B and C employees indicated above will also be applicable to all the institutions being provided Grant-in-aid (Salary) by the State Government except for Group C employees of the Municipal Boards,” he stated in the notification.
Meanwhile, the government has decided that there will be no deferment made in salaries payable to all Group D employees and payment of pensions.
