COVID-19: Prohibitory orders imposed in West Jaintia Hills, ₹ 1,000 penalty for not wearing mask
The District Magistrate, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai in an order issued on 12th April, 2021 under section 144 Cr. P.C. read together with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulations 2020 has imposed prohibitory order in the entire District from the midnight of 12th April, 2021 until further orders.
The order was issued in view of the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in many States of the Country with the possibility of the emergence of new strains requiring immediate steps to be taken to contain the spread of the virus in the State and to put in place preventive measures and awareness, to identify and take stringent steps to ensure social distancing so the pandemic of COVID-19 does not spread in West Jaintia Hills District and Meghalaya, by way of rigorous contact tracing, testing, quarantine, isolation and ensuring observance of strict protocols of the Advisories issued by Government of Meghalaya in the Health & Family Welfare Department.
The order prohibits all forms of large public gathering and congregation including social, political, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious functions etc. Any assembly whatsoever and while enforcing this, every individual to mandatorily maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet, to wear face masks, respiratory etiquette and to strictly follow the various protocols and advisories of the Government in the Health & Family Welfare Department at all times with effect.
The order also prohibits moving in public, work places, shops and during transport without a Mask (any violation shall be imposed fine up to Rs. 1000.00/-), spitting and consumption of liquor, pan, gutka, tobacco etc in public places.
The general Instructions of the order also states that every individual shall strictly comply with the order and must maintain a minimum distance of 6 feet/ 2 metres in public places. All shops, restaurants and bars in the District are to close by 9.00 PM. All residents of the District are directed to maintenance COVID Appropriate Behaviour. The Attendance in congregations to be brought down to 50 %.
All Hotels to insist for COVID Negative Certificate for those tourists arriving from outside the State.
Seating to the permitted capacity only to be ensured in public transportation vehicles.
