COVID: Meghalaya Health Department urges caution during festivities
Meghalaya Health Minister, Dr. Ampareen Mazel Lyngdoh reviewed the status of COVID in the State on December 21, in view of the recent increase in COVID cases in some parts of the country.
The meeting was attended by the officials of Health Department.
The official press communique states that, as of now, the new variant which has been declared as variant of interest by the World Health Organisation. This variant, although identified earlier this year does not pose any new risk or new symptoms. There is no need for any alarm.
The surveillance activities has been done continuously by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program of Health Department. There is no COVID cases in the State as of now. There has been no unusual increase seen in respiratory illness either.
However, the Health officials had advised, in view of the festivities precaution such as wearing masks in closed indoor spaces, maintain hand hygiene and avoiding large gathering may be followed. Those with comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney diseases etc., should take additional precautions if they have fever or severe flu like symptoms. MIPR
