COVID patient delivered baby boy
A COVID-positive pregnant woman has delivered a baby at the NEIGRIHMS hospital even as samples of the newborn will be taken for testing on Friday morning.
“The woman gave birth to a baby boy today morning. Both mother and son are in good health (and are kept in the isolation ward of the hospital). I also extend my congratulations to her,” Health Minister AL Hek told reporters.
Hek also informed that the newborn will also have to be tested for coronavirus as per protocols. Asked, the minister said that the mother will again be re-tested after she completes the mandatory 14 days quarantine.
The woman and her husband had returned from Delhi recently.
She was admitted at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) before tested positive for COVID-19.
In addition, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War informed that it was a normal delivery and both mother and child are doing fine.
“We have also asked the NEIGRIHMS authorities to take the samples of the baby for testing to find out as this is a new virus we don’t know what the transmission rate is. Whether it can transmit at later stage of pregnancy that we will see once we test the baby,” Dr War said.
He said the mother has to complete her 14 days quarantine and after that, samples will again be taken for re-test. “If tests turned out to be negative as per protocols, we will discharge them,” Dr War added.
