COVID vaccination for 18-44 age group not to commence on May 1: Govt
COVID-19 vaccination for 18-44 years age group in Meghalaya will not commence on May 1, as the state is waiting for the vaccines.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Principal Secretary in-charge Health & Family Welfare department Sampath Kumar said the exact date of commencement of the vaccination will be notified in due course.
As per the announcement of Union Government, Covid vaccination for adult beneficiaries above 18 years of age is scheduled to commence from May 1.
“The state has placed order for adequate number of vaccines with the Serum Institute of India, Pune and their delivery schedule is still awaited,” Kumar said.
According to him, this seems to be the case with most other states as well.
He however said online registration for vaccination, however, will progress as planned.
“Residents in the 18-44 years age group are encouraged to actively register themselves for vaccination,” the government official said .
Stating that vaccination will happen only after online registration, he said that on the spot registration will not be permitted for the 18 – 44 years age group as per the existing orders.
Meanwhile, vaccination for already eligible priority groups i.e. Healthcare workers, Frontline workers and citizens above 45 years of age will continue as usual at the designated vaccination centres.
