C&RD dept to implement SBMGP in Meghalaya
The state government has decided to transfer the implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin Plus (SBMGP) from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department to the Community and Rural Development (C&RD) department.
The decision was approved by the state Cabinet chaired by the chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday.
Addressing media persons after the meeting, Sangma said, “Because of the challenges faced by the PHE department since it is also implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission and because of the shortage of manpower to implement SBMGP, the decision was made today by the cabinet to transfer the implementation of the SBMGP from PHE to C&RD department.”
Stating three reasons behind the decision, the CM said, “One is that C&RD department has the manpower at the grassroot level to implement the project. Two, most of the states in the country are doing that even today for the same reason that C&RD department of the respective state governments have the necessary machinery and manpower to implement the SBMGP in a much faster and better manner and three, in the recent meeting held with the Jal Shakti ministry, the minister and secretary and officials of Government of India have suggested to the state government of Meghalaya to also shift implementation from PHE to C&RD department.”
