CSIR-NEIST celebrates 83rd CSIR foundation day in Jorhat
CSIR-NEIST celebrated the 83rd foundation day of its apex body, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) with much zeal and enthusiasm in Upper Assam’s Jorhat on September 30.
A special programme was organized at Dr JN Baruah Auditorium which was attended by an august gathering of dignitaries, invitees, eminent personalities from in and around Jorhat district, besides the CSIR-NEIST fraternity.
Eminent scientist Padma Shri Prof. Vinod K Singh, Chair Professor, IIT Kanpur and Chairman, RAB (CSIR) graced the function as chief guest and delivered the foundation day lecture.
In his welcome address, Dr VM Tiwari, Director, CSIR-NEIST, briefly discussed some of the CSIR’s significant contributions over the years and urged all to pledge to work unitedly with renewed vigour to create a better CSIR for a new and vibrant India.
He also highlighted CSIR-NEIST’s significant technological interventions over the years in various S&T sectors. He especially mentioned the contributions made in improving the quality of life of the people and creating livelihood opportunities in the NE region.
He also acknowledged the contribution of retired employees in the institute’s growth.
In his Foundation Day Lecture on ‘Leadership in Academia’, Prof Singh, emphasized on developing leadership qualities for research and academics.
He said that creating new leaders in science and academia is very crucial and is a call of the time for countries like India. He also emphasizes work, responsibility as well as time and its proper utilization. He mentioned that traits of a tall leader like clarity in thoughts & presentation, right decision-making ability, and understanding of governance & management, it is important to have respect for peer groups, ethics & morals and honesty& integrity.
On the occasion, an Integrated Solid Waste Management Plant was inaugurated in the campus by the chief guest. Also, the employees who retired last year were felicitated with CSIR Sanman Patras and mementoes and those who completed 25 years in the council’s service were felicitated with token gifts.
An MoU on Research and Academia was signed between CSIR-NEIST and Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai, Assam for research and educational collaborations between the two institutes.
On behalf of CSIR-NEIST, Dr VM Tiwari, Director and from the side of Rabindranath Tagore University, Prof. Kaushik Chanda, Dean, Research & Development signed on the MoU.
As a part of the celebration, CSIR-NEIST also observed ‘Open Day’ during which students from in and around Jorhat and the general public visited the Institute and interacted with scientists.
