CSWO condemns killing of woman in WJH
The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) has condemned the killing of a woman in West Jaintia Hills District.
“The CSWO is saddened at the tragic death of Nimai Phawa who was killed by her husband Fortunate Pala on 13/7/2020, in Mihmyntdu village, and sends condolences to the bereaved family,” CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said in a statement issued on Monday.
She said after having killed the woman, Phawa made it look like a suicide.
“We are also told that he had also taken her minor son (7 years) from the bed and threw him to the river. But he was very lucky and saved from falling to the water and came to his relatives and narrated about the incident. According to the reports Nimai Phawa was murdered by Fortunate Pala and to cover up his murder he even tried to kill the little son of the deceased,” she said
Meanwhile, the CSWO has urge the police to arrest the accused person immediately. Kharshiing said the government should extend help to the family of the deceased victim.
“The CSWO stress that the state should ensure protection to citizens especially women and children so that people cannot live in fear and this person should not get bail,” she said.
