Cultural tradition lives on: Jowai’s annual New Year spectacle
Jowai’s unique New Year celebration in Iawmusiang drew thousands to the lively street carnival, organized by Synjuk Waheh Chnong Jowai and Tourism Officer, West Jaintia Hills District.
Various Dorbar Shnong showcased unity through music and dance, receiving mementoes for their spirited participation.
Panaliar Dorbar Shnong joined others like Khimusniang, Mynthong, Chutwakhu, Tympang Iawmusiang, Mission Compound, Tpep Pale, Lumpariat, Mookyrdup, Caroline Colony, Ladthadlaboh, Moosalyngkat, Dongmihsngi, Salaroh, Loomsooiung Newhill, Khliehiongriang and Pynthornein Myntdu, adding to the diversity and richness of the celebration.

On December 31st, each Dorbar Shnong celebrated with bonfires and entertainment. The next morning, January 1st, featured a community feast followed by a joyous street dance, showcasing camaraderie.




This annual tradition, passed from generation to generation, reflects the vibrant cultural spirit of the community in Jowai.
