Curfew imposed in Shillong City & Sohra Civil Sub-Division
The state government has imposed curfew in the state capital and areas under the Sohra civil sub-division to prevent any law and order breakdown.
This came following the clash that erupted in Ichamati near Shella which has resulted to the killing of a KSU member, Lurshai Hynniewta (25) on Friday afternoon.
In Shillong, the district magistrate of East Khasi Hills Matsiewdor War Nongbri has promulgated curfew in areas falling under Lumdiengjri police station and Sadar police station with effect from 12 pm.
The areas under Lumdiengjri police station and its respective beat house and outpost include whole of Jaiaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission, Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lamavilla, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment, Boucher Road, Mawlong Hat (excluding localities beyond Umshyrpi Bridge).
The areas under Sadar police station include the whole of Police Bazar, Jail Road, Keating Road and Polo. The curfew will be effective until further orders.
The sub-divisional magistrate of Sohra has under section 144 CrPC extended curfew in the areas under the Sohra civil sub-division agglomeration and its adjoining areas with effect from 1 pm today to 12 noon of March 1.
The order has been issued in view of the serious deterioration of law and order situation at Ichamati agglomeration and adjoining areas under Sohra Civil Sub Division, whereas there is every likelihood of serious breach of peace and tranquility and may lead to loss of life and property.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner (Excise), East Khasi Hills District has due to the deteriorating law and order situation declared dry day with effect from February 29, throughout the entire district.
All bonded warehouse, IMFL shops, bars, hotels, clubs and outstill shops shall remain closed till further orders.
