Curtain raiser today in Jowai: 3899 athletes ready for the 6th Meghalaya Games
The much-anticipated curtain raiser for the 6th Meghalaya Games is happening today at 1.00 PM at the District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai. The event will be graced by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shakliar Warjri, and the Guest of Honour, Local MLA and Chairman MUDA, Wailadmiki Shylla.
With just a few days left until the main event, preparations for the games are in full swing. Approximately 3899 athletes are set to compete in 29 different sports disciplines, including archery, athletics, basketball, boxing, football, gymnastics, judo, swimming, and many more.
The competitions will take place from 20th January to 25th January, 2025, in various venues across Jowai Town, Wahiajer, and Khliehtryshi in the West Jaintia Hills District, with select events in Shillong, the Swimming event will take place in Caroline Swimming Pool and Golf at Assam Rifles Golf Course, Laitkor.
John Kharshiing, Working President Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), expressed satisfaction with the progress of preparations, noting that various committees such as transport, security, receptions, accreditation, accommodation, and media have been working diligently. He mentioned that some committees are almost 90% complete in their work and remains hopeful that any flagged issues will be resolved promptly, ensuring the successful delivery of the 6th Meghalaya Games.
The curtain raiser event today will set the stage for the upcoming games, building excitement and anticipation among athletes, officials, and spectators alike.
