Cyclists spread Anti-Drug message through Jowai town
In an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO), in collaboration with the District Sports Office (DSO) and the West Jaintia Adventure and Cycling Association, organized a cycle rally on June 22. This event was part of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The rally began with an awareness program to educate participants and the local community about drug addiction and the importance of a drug-free lifestyle. Distinguished guests, including the District Social Welfare Officer, District Sports Officer, and the President of the West Jaintia Adventure and Cycling Association, addressed the gathering.
Following the speeches, the rally was enthusiastically flagged off. Cyclists, adorned with banners promoting a drug-free society, pedaled through Jowai Town. Participants, both seasoned cyclists and newcomers, demonstrated unity and determination in spreading the message.
Throughout the rally, volunteers distributed pamphlets containing information on the harmful effects of drugs, ways to seek help for addiction, and contact details of local support groups and helplines. This distribution aimed to educate the broader community and provide resources for those needing assistance.
The rally was a significant step towards raising awareness about drug abuse and promoting a drug-free lifestyle. It highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing this issue and inspired many to take proactive steps in their own lives and communities. The event concluded with a clear message: through unity, education, and active participation, a drug-free society is achievable.
