Cyclone Remal wreaks havoc in Meghalaya, one dead, four injured
One person died and four others were injured in Meghalaya due to rain-related incidents in the last twenty-four hours.
Secretary in-charge of Revenue & Disaster Management Matsiewdor War Nongbri reported that a wall collapse at Sutnga Wailong under Wapung C&RD Block in East Jaintia Hills District resulted in one death and one house being damaged.
Four people were also injured in a landslide at Mawkynroh Bypass under Mawlai C&RD Block. The injured were shifted to NEIGRIHMS hospital for treatment.
In Shillong, strong winds caused the light tower at JN Stadium, Polo to collapse. Although there were no civilian casualties, some houses suffered minor damage, and a tree was uprooted near the Last Stop bus shed. Forest staff have since cleared the fallen tree.
In West Garo Hills, a cyclone hit Rongkhon Agal village in Rongram Block. Fallen trees are being cleared, and restoration work is in progress by PWD (Road) and the Forest Department.
In South West Khasi Hills, Cyclone Remal struck Mawten village under Mawkyrwat C&RD Block on Monday, damaging one house. A detailed report is still being assessed.
Cyclonic storm occurred on Monday in Dombah village under Mawthadraishan C&RD Block, partially damaging one house.
