Day-long training programme on ‘Enhancing Livelihood through soybean cultivation
A day-long training programme on ‘Enhancing Livelihood Through soybean cultivation among tribal farmers of Assam’ was organized by AICRP on soybean, AAU, Jorhat at Bokoliya village of Karbi Anglong district in collaboration with AAU-ZRS, Diphu on August 21.
In the inaugural session chaired by the Chief Scientist, AAU-ZRS, Diphu, Madhuram Lekthe, EM, KAAC, Karbi Anglong graced the occasion as chief guest and delivered an encouraging speech to the farmers present stating his recent visit to Vietnam. He also suggested the farmers to go for commercialization, particularly soybeans.
Dr IA Sheikh, Principal Scientist & PI, AICRP on soybean had a very interactive session speaking on the importance and cultivation practices of soybean emphasising on the need for feed and food security. Dr Munmi Borah, Scientist, AICRP on soybean motivated the farmers for soybean cultivation, domestic food preparation and disease management in soybeans.
Dr Manha Batgari and Krishna Bhardwaz, both scientists from AAU-ZRS, Diphu interacted on insect pest and crop management aspects, respectively with the farmers.
During the training programme few sprayers to the farmer’s group and one domestic tofu-making unit to one SHG were also distributed.
In his plenary speech, Dr KD Singh, Chief Scientist, AAU-ZRS, Diphu thanked AICRP on soybean, AAU for organizing such training in Karbi Anglong and encouraged the farmers to cultivate soybean to improve their livelihood.
