DC bans sales and use of plastic products
The Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has issued an order banning manufacturing, stocking, distribution, sale and single use of plastic including polystyrene and expanded polystyrene in the district from 1st July, 2022 as per the notification issued by the Ministry of environment, Forest and Climate Change in connection with Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules. 2021
The banned items included the Ear buds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, Ice cream sticks, polystyrene (Thermocol) for decoration.
Plastic plates, cups, glasses, cutlery such as forks, spoons, knives, straw, trays wrapping or packing films around sweet boxes, invitation cards, and cigarette packets, plastic or PVC banners less than 100 micron, stirrers.
The Deputy Commissioner has also instructed the Chief Executive Officer, Jowai Municipal Board, Inspector of Supply and all Block Development Officers to create awareness on the negative impact of use of Plastic..
The Deputy Commissioner has requested the public to avoid using Single Use Plastic products and to cooperate with the District Administration.
The Order also states the District Magistrate shall authorized Officers to conduct inspection and raid shopkeeper to stop selling/using of plastic in the District
