DC convenes meeting for holding peaceful elections
The Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills Ram Singh has convened a meeting with the representatives of Senior Citizens Forum, Church Leaders, Nokma Council, Garo Graduates union, Development Committee Members and others in order to discuss about conducting the General Elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) in a peaceful manner.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh has informed that preparations for the General Elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) 2021 is almost done and that polling parties will be moving to their respective polling stations from tomorrow ahead of the Polling Day scheduled for 12th April, 2021.
Further, in view of the rumour being spread through social media that some section of the society are protesting the election, the Deputy Commissioner has requested all the members to persuade the concerned groups for reconciliation and address their grievances in the right forum in a democratic manner and to allow holding of elections smoothly at the moment adding that the mandate of the District Administration is only to oversee the conduct of elections in a free and fair manner in the district. Moreover, he also informed that any protest which is undemocratic in nature leads to violation of fundamental rights adding that whatever grievances they have against a certain section of society participating in the GHADC Elections can be addressed when the new executive committee assumes office. He also cautioned the general public to be careful since posting and sharing of any such provocative messages are being constantly monitored and any violation of MCC will be viewed seriously and prosecuted under the relevant cyber act.
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills Dr. Ragavendra Kumar has also appealed to everyone to cooperate and support the district administration to conduct the elections smoothly and to raise their problems in the right forum.
All the members who participated during the meeting extended their full support and cooperation for the smooth conduct of the general elections to the GHADC 2021.
