DC has directed all street vendors to vacate public footpath

The Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has issued an order directing all street vendors to vacate the public footpath and main roads with immediate effect.

The order has been issued in view of the regular problems faced in removing of hawkers from occupying every nook and corner in Jowai town including public footpath, which has caused major inconvenience to the general public and pedestrians and has disrupted the free flow of traffic as pedestrians are deprived from using the foot path due to the illegal encroachment of hawkers and pedestrian tends to use the main road for walking which in turn has led to frequent accidents due to heavy congestion.
