DCA proposes extension of GHADC tenure
DCA Minister, Hamletson Dohling on Wednesday said the department will propose to the state government to either extend the term of the present house in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) or declare administrator’s rule.
“We have prepared a cabinet memo which will be placed before the Cabinet to either extend the present term (by another six months) or to bring in administrator’s rule in the GHADC,” Dohling told reporters.
His statement came in the wake that the five-year term of the GHADC will expire in October and ahead of the Cabinet meeting to be chaired by the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Thursday.
“The final decision on the matter will depend on the cabinet,” Dohling said adding the proposal was made although the government is yet to discuss the issue related to holding of the elections to the GHADC.
On the demand of the BJP that the government should not postpone the elections, he said anybody can make demands but it is for the government to take a call.
