DDMA issues advisory on mudslide in Sonapur Tunnel
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of East Jaintia Hills has issued a public advisory urging people to take safety precautions with the onset of the monsoon season.
The advisory issued by the chairman of the DDMA highlights the increased risk of mudslides at the Sonapyrdi Tunnel on National Highway 6 and the potential occurrence of landslides along the stretch of the highway from Lumshnong to Malidor.
As a result, vehicular movement is severely hampered, which can cause significant inconvenience to both public and private vehicles traveling on this route.
In light of this, the public is strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel along this particular section of the highway. However, if travel on this route is unavoidable, individuals are encouraged to carry sufficient food items and potable water to prepare for unforeseen eventualities.
