Deficit budget passed
JOWAI: The deficit budget of Rs. 19.99 crore was passed by the august House of the Jaintia Autonomous District Council (JHADC) this afternoon for the financial year 2019-2020 and this is for the second consecutive years that the budget was passed without any cut motion.
JHADC’s Chief Executive Member Thombor Shiwat presented the budget yesterday where the estimated expenditure of Rs .168,67,37,500 exceeded the estimate receipt of Rs.148,67,41,200 thereby resulting in the deficit budget of Rs. 19.99 crore.
Shiwat said that they will pursuit with the State Government for enhancing the shares of royalty on major and mineral resources to 50: 50 basis as to boost the exchequer of the Council while speaking during general discussion of the budget.
Leader of Opposition Awhai Andrew Shullai urged the Executive Committee to formulate the rules for defining the powers and responsibilities of the Waheh Chnong as at presently there is only Act without rules making incomplete and to revise of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Service Rules.
He also complemented Shiwat on the need for enhancing the shares of royalty as it is main source of revenue to the council.
