Deputy CM inaugurates extension building of CTC Orchid Inn, says 1.4 million tourists visited Meghalaya
Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said that nearly 1.4 million tourists visited Meghalaya in 2024. He said this while inaugurating the extension building of the CTC Orchid Inn (MTDC) Thadlaskein on January 17.
Also present were Jowai legislator Wailadamiki Shylla, Phasmon Dkhar EM JHADC, and other distinguished guests
The new extension includes 16 additional rooms and a conference room, enhancing the hotel’s service offerings. Dhar thanked the two Dorbar Chnong, Mukhla and Khliehtyrshi, for their support in benefiting the local community.
Dhar shared future plans to develop tourist areas in Jaintia Hills, making it more attractive to visitors. He emphasized the need for reasonable conditions when issuing NOCs, so hotels are not restricted from having bars or operating at certain times.
He said that within the next five years, 3,000 accommodations will be created to generate jobs for youths. He praised the NPP-led Government for supporting the creation of 2,000 homestays, providing subsidies that were not available before.
Dhar also highlighted Meghalaya’s natural beauty and stressed the importance of utilizing these gifts effectively to boost tourism and local development.
