NPP leader and deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday condemned the recent statement made by the opposition VPP president Ardent M Basaiawmoit that Meghalaya also needs a revolution similar to that of Bangladesh.

“I strongly condemn such statements. We are responsible leaders of the state. As leaders of the state, it is our duty to ensure peace and tranquillity prevails in the state. Law and order in the state is our top most priority,” Dhar told reporters.

“I don’t think people of the state will like such statements to come out from political leaders of the state. I request all leaders and the youth not to have such a mentality. Let us try to build our state. If we can, we want to eradicate drug menace, crimes – it is our duty. To say that we want the same revolution as in Bangladesh, I really don’t know what kind of leader would want Meghalaya to face the same situation like Bangladesh,” he added.
