Dhar predicts Congress will soon be wiped out from Meghalaya
NPP national general secretary and deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has predicted that the opposition Congress will soon be wiped out from Meghalaya.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Dhar referred to the recent merging of three Congress MLAs with the NPP and said, “It seems that it is going toward that (very soon, the Congress will be wiped out from Meghalaya.”
As a former Congress leader, Dhar said that he took the decision to quit the Congress in 2017 after knowing for sure that the party is going to sink.
“Why I switched to the NPP is because I know that the Congress will sink and my prediction was good and maybe I am right. Accordingly in 2017-2018 I switched to NPP because I know that time Congress is going to sink in no time,” he added.
Dhar also said that the three Congress MLAs had joined the NPP at the right time.
Asked, the NPP leader said his party is also ready to welcome the Congress chief and former Shillong MP Vincent H Pala to join its fold. “If he (Pala) comes, he is most welcome.”
On Pala’s allegation that NPP is using illegal money to poach the Congress MLAs, Dhar said, “You can ask from his own party MLAs, who have recently joined us. I am not the right person to speak on that. That is his (Pala) allegation but their MLAs have expressed very clearly on the day of joining that their decision was mainly based on development. They may allege but actually it is not true. It is a false and baseless allegation.”
“You see they are the legislators, they are for development as they have expressed very clearly in the media. Because maybe they are all senior politicians, they expressed very clearly also that they need development for the people so we would like to choose the right direction. Maybe they see the performance of the government is very good. That is one of the reasons for them to join the NPP,” he added.
Further, Dhar admitted that the government cannot give enough schemes to all constituencies but he said, “We are trying as a government to perform our best. No constituency has got enough development but as a government we are trying to give development to all constituencies.”
