DHEW hosts Girl Child Program at St. Dominic, Mowkyndeng
As part of the 10-day campaign for the International Day of the Girl Child, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), West Jaintia Hills, held an awareness program on October 10 at St. Dominic Higher Secondary School, Madankynsaw Mowkyndeng. The focus was on Nutrition, Legal Rights, and Medical Care for girls.
Y. Kyndait, Gender Specialist, discussed various schemes under Mission Shakti, including the One Stop Centre, Women Helpline, and PMMVY. She stressed the importance of the campaign theme, “Girls’ Vision for the Future,” which focuses on girls’ education, health, sports, safety, and political participation.
M. Niang from ICDS Laskein Block encouraged healthy eating, while S. Lakiang, BBBP Ambassador, shared her achievements in sports and the importance of time management and dedication.
M. Nongtdu spoke on issues affecting children, including the POCSO Act and the Juvenile Justice Act, urging awareness of ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch.’ E. Niang, Health Educator from Laskein CHC, discussed the importance of monitoring blood pressure, anaemia, and cholesterol in adolescents.
The program included a quiz competition, with prizes for the winners, and was chaired by S. Meliora Lamare, Gender Specialist, DHEW.
