All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) candidate from Pynthorumkhrah constituency Samborlang Diengdoh on Tuesday quit the party to contest as an independent candidate in the upcoming elections, to be held on February 27.
“I have submitted my resignation letter on January 19. I will contest as an independent candidate,” he told reporters.
Diengdoh said the reason for him to disassociate himself from the AITC is because he does not want to be part of mudslinging politics.
“I will continue to promote constructive politics and refrain myself from mudslinging politics,” he added.
He joined the AITC on August 20, last year after the party also shared the same concern over the issues of hike in the prices of essential commodities.
When asked, the candidate said he holds no grudge against the party or its leaders and has taken the decision to quit the party purely on personal reasons.
Claiming to have helped many people during the pandemic in the state, Diengdoh said even before joining the AITC, he was already known to many in the constituency.
He also expressed confidence that propagating his own ideologies will no doubt boost his election campaigns.
