Disaster preparedness in Jowai: Mock earthquake and landslide drill conducted

A Mock drill on earthquake and landslide preparedness was conducted on Thursday in Jowai by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), West Jaintia Hills along with other districts of the state through a State Level Mock exercise organized by State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The mock exercise siren started at 9 Am alerting the public of the earthquake occurrence. The mock drill was held at Iaphi shopping complex, Bharat Petrol pump, Gate Laban, Presbyterian School, Mission Compound, Jowai.  

The initial responders assemble at the staging areas and the search & rescue operation teams rush to areas affected.

A relief camp was also set up in the hall of Dorbar Shnong Lion Mission compound locality, Jowai. The relief camp is meant to provide shelter for those affected by the incident thereby in need of immediate relief and support.
