District Magistrate bans illegal entry fee collection on road to Kupli Orchid Resort

The District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills, AK Singh, IAS, has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), banning the illegal collection of entry fees on the road leading to Kupli Orchid Resort in Priang Village.
The order states that the Dorbar Shnong of Priang Village in West Jaintia Hills District are collecting entry fees on the road leading to Kupli Orchid Resort, a government undertaking by the Tourism Department of Meghalaya.
Based on a report from the Block Development Officer of Laskein C&RD Block, several NGOs individuals, Land owners opined that the presence of the Tollgate on the road leading to the Kupli Orchid Resort and the adjoining areas has created a lot of inconvenience and hindrance to the commuters and the citizen of the adjacent areas crossing through this road.
The District Magistrate stated that such unauthorised fee collection may cause public annoyance and disturb peace and tranquillity in the area if not prevented.
The order comes into force with immediate effect and will remain in place until further orders.
