District Magistrate enforces section 144 CrPC around DC office Jowai

In order to secure Election Strong Room in DC office Jowai where the polled EVMs & VVPATs and the Counting Centre are located, the District Magistrate West Jaintia Hills District has promulgated Section 144 CrPC in and around DC office Jowai with immediate effect.

The order prohibited Assembly of more than 5 (five) persons in one place within 100 meters periphery around the DC Office Jowai.

However, the prohibitory order will not apply to the forces (CAPF, State and District Force) stationed in Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Candidates, Election Agents, Counting Agents, Staff of Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Officers/Staffs on Election duty and authorized media personnel.

Any violation of the said order will attract penal provisions under Section 188 of the IPC

Notably, the General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2024 is ongoing and the election period will continue till the 20th July, 2024 (end of 45 days election petition period).
