District youth exchange programme concludes in East Jaintia Hills
The two-day District Level Youth Exchange Programme, themed “Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leader,” organized by the District Sports Officer’s office, concluded on October 24 at the Khliehriat West Community Hall. The event was graced by Sub-Divisional Officer (Sadar) Aditya Verma, as the Chief Guest, alongside Dr. T. Shylla, Block Development Officer of Khliehriat C&RD Block; AP Syiem, District School Education Officer; SM Rapsang, District Sports Officer; ES War, District Public Relations Officer; and other dignitaries, government officials, teachers, and students.
During the closing ceremony, Chief Guest Aditya Verma spoke passionately about the programme’s theme, urging students to embrace ambition and think big. He emphasized that hard work, consistency, and dedication are key to achieving life goals, stating, “Leaders are not born; they are made.” Verma encouraged students to cultivate innovation and invest their energy in realizing their dreams, reminding them that there is no age limit for leadership aspirations.
The event aimed to foster leadership and showcase youth talent, featuring various competitions that included folk songs, folk dances, a science mela, story writing, quizzes, and painting.
Prizes were awarded to winners in multiple categories. In the Story Writing Competition, Wanda Phi Pala from Jaintia Eastern College took first place, followed by Nisha Shylla and Mewari Gympad in second and third. Juliana Lyngdoh won the Declamation Competition, with Pynhunlang Ia-I Syih and Gloria K. Gympad securing second and third places, respectively. Wanda Phi Pala also excelled in the Poetry Writing Competition, with Avirginia Dkhar and Well Born Phawa earning second and third prizes.
In the Painting Competition, Bright Star Dkhar from Don Bosco College claimed first prize, followed by Gloria Chyrmang and Bikram Magar. The Science Mela winners were Rangdajied Sympli and Biki Boro from Jaintia Eastern College, while Alisha Dkhar and Lightning Sumer were the runners-up.
In music and dance, the Solo Folk Song Competition was won by a Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School student, with students from Star Public School and Sein Jait Tuber Higher Secondary School taking second and third places, respectively. Sein Jait Tuber Higher Secondary School won first in the Folk Song Group Category, while Good Shepherd and Jaintia Eastern College followed.
In the dance competitions, a student from Jaintia Eastern College won the Solo Folk Dance, while Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School triumphed in the Group Folk Dance category, with Ephatha Society and Sein Jait Tuber Higher Secondary School earning second and third places.
The Quiz Competition concluded with Jaintia Eastern College taking first place, while Star Public School and Don Bosco College were named first and second runners-up, respectively.
