Do away with interviews for recruitment to Group B, C & D: KHNAM tells MDA Govt
The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) on Tuesday demanded the state government to do away with interviews for recruitment to Group B, C & D posts in government jobs.
After submitting a memorandum to the chief minister Conrad K Sangma, KHNAM state youth wing president Thomas Passah said the government of India in 2015 had done away with interviews for Group B, C & D posts and similarly 25 other states have adopted this policy with the objective to eradicate nepotism and illegal way of recruiting candidates.
“Therefore, we strongly urge the state government to implement the same policy in the state so that we can have a transparent recruitment so that the youth can have faith again in the recruitment process,” he told reporters.
Passah said as of today, most of the youths are discouraged to even apply for government jobs because they feel that if they don’t know anybody in the high profile there is no use to apply for jobs.
He said the government should take this request seriously for the benefit of the unemployed youth of the state.
Stating that doing away with interviews will also cut down on unnecessary burden on the state exchequer, he said the government will not have to spend on conducting interviews which for one post, 30,000 – 40,000 candidates are applying.
Further, the KHNAM leader alleged that complaints were received that relatives of the panelists who conducted the interviews have got the jobs and other youths who have applied for the same job may be they thought they did well but they were not selected.
“The question is how can an interviewer interview his own son or daughter and fail him. I think they will not do that but they will clear them only. These are the things going on in the interview system,” he said adding “We are in the process of finding out the real facts and once we get the documents and facts through our RTIs, people who are involved in this will have to be highlighted and the government has to take action.”
On the allegation of political interferences in the recruitment process especially at the district level, Passah said, “Most of the departments and directorates of the government, there are people who have been fielded by the politicians and it is a fact, how to prove it I don’t know, but most of the people knows that politicians use this tactic for vote bank purposes.
Now if the government doesn’t consider doing away with interviews from MPSC, DSC and all levels, I think it will only make us believe more that the government is using appointments to attract vote banks.”
He further alleged that another way to attract vote banks is the appointment on contractual basis.
“There are lots of contractual appointments but why contractual appointments? Now I have never heard of a contract of 15 years and a contract of 20 years. A contract of 30 days or 1 year we can understand. But now the government is not recruiting regular employees. Now one government employee goes for retirement. They recruited two contractual workers with the money of one government employee so in that way they are making vote banks, they can easily get people from their own constituencies so that they get support during the election. So it is a sad story for the state,” Passah stated.
