Doctors & nurses are risking their lives: Govt appeals for supports
The Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Health & Family Welfare Department on Saturday informed that it has been brought to the notice of the Government that doctors, nurses, and other health workers staying in the containment zones have been obstructed from attending their duties, which has disrupted the day-to-day functions of the hospitals they work in. It should be noted that, apart from COVID-19, hospitals handle many emergency situations that deal with life and death and also cater to many other health care services which need equal attention, and obstructions such as these could lead to loss of precious life.
While there have been instances wherein healthcare workers are stigmatized, the Government hereby advises the public and solicits cooperation from all community members to be more empathetic towards the health workers and doctors who have been putting their lives at stake for the safety of our people and to understand that services provided by them are indispensable.
It is to be informed that precautionary measures are taken in hospitals pertaining to COVID-19 and that healthcare workers have always been extra – careful about their behaviour in their workspaces as well as personal space, and their movement is restricted to the least extent possible.
Therefore, all concerned are requested to ensure that no such inconveniences are caused to health workers and that the staff of all hospitals should be allowed to attend their duties and return to their respective residence without any disturbance and reduce the pressure that they are already bearing, considering the situation at hand.
