Door is open for anyone to join politics but resign first, says Tynsong
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said the door is open for anybody who wants to join politics but they first need to resign from their job.
“As a politician, I welcome intellectuals to join politics. I did join politics but I resigned from my job,” Tynsong told reporters.
He was reacting to the demand of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) to withdraw the notification which bars government employees including teachers from holding office in any political organization.
Tynsong recalled that he resigned from his job on October 15, 2002 before joining politics.
“I think we need to understand that whoever wants to join politics, the door is always open, you can join anytime any moment but you need to resign from your job that is very simple,” he said while reacting to the VPP’s allegation that the notification is an attempt of the government to prevent intellectuals from joining the newly floated political party.
When asked, the deputy chief minister however said that the government will examine before taking a call on the demand.
He said that the proposal in fact had come from the education department and the government had accordingly notified the same.
“If there is some opposition, we will see and decide what is best. We will take up with the cabinet,” he added.
